CEP Community Outreach

The Success Starter Kit initiative has a goal of getting at- risk students off to a good start to their school year by providing them with supplies and information that is vital to helping them develop the study skills and work ethic that will help them have academic success.

Everyone I have asked tells me the same thing about their first day of school. Their parents made sure they had 2 pens, 2pencils, an eraser, a pencil sharpener, note books, etc. During my years as a high school teacher, I had to remind too many students who said they couldn’t get their work done because they had lost the only pen or pencil they started the day out with, that instead of making progress from day one of school they are moving backwards.

Career Educational Pathways would like to provide The Success Starter Kit initiative in the three cities that we operate from Pittsburgh, Erie, and Philadelphia. Our desire is to be able to provide up to 5,000 at-risk students a package of supplies and information. We want to support the program via fund raisers, donations, and corporate sponsors. Companies and individuals may participate by providing us with a minimum of 500 pieces

Due to the large size of Pittsburgh and Philadelphia we will target selected areas. In the Pittsburgh area  we will focus on the Homewood/East End and Carrick/South Hills sections. In the Philadelphia region our target group is the families in the Mantua and Powellton Village areas. These two areas include families of students who attend University City High, Drew, Powell, Martha Washington, & Hamilton middle and elementary schools.

This is a large but very necessary under taking. Please consider assisting us in our fund raising efforts.

Sincerely,

Bernard D. Miller
